This complete left-hand bullet indicator assembly with amber lens is an accurate, high-quality reproduction for early Volkswagen Splitscreen Buses built up to 1964. Supplied as a ready-to-fit unit, it includes the base, seal, bulb holder and amber lens, making it a perfect replacement for worn, cracked or missing original indicators.
This style of bullet indicator was fitted to:
European Splitscreen models from 1958 to July 1963
US-market Splitscreens from 1956 to 1961
During this period, Volkswagen transitioned away from semaphore trafficators. In the United States, semaphores were replaced with flashing indicators in March 1955, while Europe and the rest of the world continued using semaphores until June 1960, when the bullet-style indicators like this one became standard.
In August 1961, the American market moved on from the bullet design to a flatter style commonly known as “Fish Eye” indicators, accompanied by larger tail lights—changes that were not implemented in other markets until August 1963. For restorers working on pre-1961 US buses or pre-1963 European buses, this assembly provides the correct early-style appearance and function.
Designed to fit the left side (passenger side on RHD models), this assembly maintains precise styling and proportions, making it ideal for show-level restoration or authentic repairs where originality matters.
