Splitscreen Bus Rear Backing Plate - 1955-63 - Left

This rear left-hand brake drum backing plate is a high-quality replacement for all VW Splitscreen Buses produced from March 1955 to August 1963. As a core component of the rear drum brake assembly, the backing plate provides the mounting base for the brake shoes, springs, adjusters and wheel cylinder while also protecting the brake mechanism from dust, debris and moisture. A corroded or distorted backing plate can lead to misaligned shoes, uneven braking or reduced stopping performance—making replacement essential for safe, reliable braking.

This backing plate is also suitable for VW Trekker (Type 181/Thing) models fitted with reduction boxes, typically vehicles produced up to chassis number 183 2346 524. These models used early-style reduction box rear brake assemblies identical to early Splitscreen units.
