Baywindow Bus Rear Brake Drum - 1968-70

This replacement rear brake drum is designed to fit all early Baywindow buses from 1968 through to 1970, retaining the original wide 5 stud pattern (5×205 PCD). Featuring the correct internal hub design, this drum is the proper choice for maintaining factory braking specification on early T2 Bay models before the later change to different wheel and brake configurations.

What the part does & how it works

The rear brake drum provides the friction surface for the rear braking system. When the brake pedal is pressed, hydraulic pressure forces the rear brake shoes outward against the inside of the drum. The friction generated slows the rotation of the drum and wheel, helping bring the vehicle to a controlled stop.

Correct internal dimensions and a true braking surface are essential for smooth braking, even shoe contact, and consistent pedal feel. Worn or oval drums can cause vibration, grabbing, or reduced braking efficiency. This replacement drum restores proper braking performance and helps ensure safe, predictable stopping.

These drums are correct for early Baywindow models and are not suitable for later Bays with alternative hub or stud patterns.

Fitting notes

• Sold individually, however it is strongly recommended to replace rear brake drums in pairs to prevent uneven braking and imbalance.

• Prior to installation, clean the inner braking surface thoroughly with brake cleaner, as the drum is coated with an anti-oxidising oil during manufacture to protect it during storage.

• While fitting, always inspect brake shoes, wheel cylinders, springs, and adjusters, renewing any worn components for best braking performance.
