Baywindow Bus Engine Bar Hanger - 1972-79 - Type 1 Engines

This rear engine bar hanger is a top-quality reproduction, handmade in the UK, designed for Volkswagen Baywindow Buses built between 1972 and 1979 that use a fixed rear valance and are fitted with Type 1–based air-cooled engines. These hangers mount to the chassis and support the rear engine bar (moustache bar), helping to stabilise the engine and maintain correct drivetrain alignment while absorbing drivetrain movement and vibration.

Late Bay buses fitted with Type 1 engines rely on a pair of these hangers to suspend the engine support bar. Over time, the original hangers commonly corrode, crack at the weld points, distort under engine load, or become thin due to rust—especially on vehicles exposed to moisture and road salt. Replacing worn hangers ensures the engine sits at the correct height and alignment, reducing strain on engine mounts, gearbox mounts, tinware, and exhaust components.

Crafted to OE dimensions and profiles, these UK-made hangers provide exceptional fit, strength and durability. They are suitable for restoration projects, drivetrain conversions, or routine maintenance on late Type 1–powered Baywindows.
