This Engine Tin Over Gearbox Panel is a precise reproduction of the tinware used on late Baywindow Buses (1972–1979) equipped with Type 1 twin port engines and a fixed rear valance. Located between the engine and the gearbox, this panel is an essential component of the aircooled engine’s cooling system, sealing off the engine compartment from the hot underside of the vehicle.
By correctly separating the intake air zone from the exhaust and gearbox area, this tinware ensures the engine’s cooling fan draws in only cool, clean air, maintaining optimal operating temperatures and preventing overheating.
Many original panels are lost or corroded over decades of service, compromising cooling efficiency. This high-quality replacement is pressed to the correct shape and dimensions for a perfect fit, offering both durability and an authentic factory appearance.
