This rear brake drum is a direct replacement designed for Volkswagen Polo (6R) models equipped with PR code 1KC rear drum brakes. With a 230 mm diameter and an inner brake drum height of 39 mm, it is manufactured to match original factory specifications, ensuring correct fitment and dependable braking performance.
What this part does
The rear brake drum forms the outer friction surface for the rear braking system. When you press the brake pedal, the wheel cylinder forces the brake shoes outward against the inside of the drum. This friction slows the rotation of the rear wheels, helping to stabilise the vehicle under braking and supporting the front disc brakes for balanced stopping performance.
How it works
As the drum rotates with the wheel hub, braking force is generated internally by the brake shoes expanding against the machined inner surface of the drum. The drum also acts as a heat sink, dissipating heat generated during braking. Maintaining the correct internal diameter and surface finish is essential to ensure smooth braking, prevent vibration, and allow the handbrake mechanism to operate effectively.
