Restore factory comfort and authenticity with this OE horsehair-style front seat backrest padding, designed for European-spec VW Beetles from August 1972 to July 1976. During this period, Euro-market Beetles were supplied without headrests, making this padding unique in both shape and density compared with later foam-filled or headrest-compatible versions.

Manufactured in the traditional horsehair-style fibre material, this padding accurately replicates the firmness, breathability, and support of the original VW seat structure. Horsehair-style pads hold their shape far better than low-density foam alternatives, giving proper long-term support while ensuring seat covers fit exactly as intended—especially important on 1970s Beetles where the seat frame contours are very specific.

This backrest padding is also correct for all Mk1 Golfs (standard seats only) from start to end of production. Models equipped with sport or GTI-style seats used different pad shapes, making this version the suitable replacement for base-model and mid-trim vehicles.

Easy to install during seat retrims or restorations, this padding works with all standard replacement seat covers and clips onto the original backrest frame. As original pads often deteriorate, crumble or collapse over time, replacing them restores the seat’s original shape, comfort, and factory feel.
