Beetle Fuel Gauge Stabiliser - 1968-79 (Also Baywindow Bus 1973-79)

This fuel gauge stabilizer unit (also known as a fuel gauge voltage regulator) fits to the rear of the speedometer and ensures a consistent, reliable voltage supply to the fuel gauge on a wide range of classic Volkswagen models. Fitted to all Beetles from 1968–1979, Baywindow Buses from 1973–1979, and suitable for Karmann Ghia, Type 3, and Trekker models of the same era, it prevents erratic gauge behaviour caused by fluctuating vehicle voltage.

On older VW electrical systems, the fuel gauge operates directly from supply voltage, which varies considerably based on alternator output, battery condition, and electrical load. These fluctuations cause the fuel gauge needle to jump, drift, or give inaccurate readings. This voltage stabilizer regulates the current so that the gauge receives a smooth, constant voltage, resulting in a stable, trustworthy fuel level display.

The stabilizer mounts directly onto the back of the fuel gauge within the speedometer housing. Installation is simple and requires just basic hand tools. If you regularly experience fuel level readings that change with engine RPM or electrical load, this stabilizer is likely the solution.

Fitment Notes:

  • Installs behind the speedometer on the fuel gauge.

  • Replaces original-style voltage regulators on multiple VW models.

  • Suitable for both 6v-to-12v converted vehicles and original 12v systems.

Applications:

  • VW Beetle: 1968–1979
