Type 1 Oil Pump - 21mm Gears - 3 Bolt Camshaft (1969-71) - 8mm Studs

This standard 21mm aluminium oil pump is designed for all Type 1 aircooled Volkswagen engines from 1969–1971 that use 8mm oil pump studs and are fitted with a 3-bolt or riveted camshaft. It is also suitable for the majority of aftermarket performance camshafts that use a bolt-on cam gear, including popular brands such as Engle, Scat, and CB Performance.

The “21mm” specification refers to the depth of the internal oil pump gears, which determines the volume of oil moved through the engine. This size provides reliable factory-level oil pressure, making it ideal for standard and mildly uprated engines. Constructed from durable aluminium, the pump offers efficient heat transfer and resistance to corrosion while maintaining excellent internal clearances for consistent lubrication.

This pump fits directly into the Type 1 crankcase and is driven by the camshaft gear. As the engine rotates, the pump gears draw oil from the sump and push it through the galleries to supply all critical engine components—crankshaft, bearings, rocker assemblies, and camshaft—with the lubrication they need. Proper oil pressure is vital in any aircooled VW engine, where heat management relies heavily on a stable oil system.

• A new oil pump gasket set is recommended on installation.

• Ensure your engine uses 8mm oil pump studs and a 3-bolt or riveted camshaft.
