G4 Oil Sump (With Oil Level Sensor Hole)

This aluminium oil sump is fitted to the bottom of the engine and acts as the oil reservoir for the engine lubrication system. Engine oil is stored in the sump and drawn through the oil pickup pipe by the oil pump, then circulated around the engine to lubricate bearings, pistons, camshaft and valve gear before draining back into the sump. The aluminium construction helps dissipate heat from the oil, helping maintain correct engine oil temperature and lubrication performance.

This version of the sump includes the bore for the oil level sensor, which is fitted to vehicles equipped with an electronic oil level warning system. The oil level sensor mounts into the sump and monitors engine oil level and temperature. If your vehicle has an oil level sensor fitted to the sump, this is the correct sump required.

Common reasons for replacing the oil sump include damage from road impact, corrosion, stripped sump plug threads, oil leaks from the sealing surface, or damaged oil level sensor mounting threads. When replacing the sump, it is recommended to fit new sump sealant or gasket, new sump bolts, a new sump plug washer, and a new oil level sensor seal. It is also advisable to check the oil pickup pipe for blockage or damage.
