G4 Oil Sump - 1.8 Turbo

The oil sump (also known as the oil pan) is mounted to the bottom of the engine and holds the engine oil that lubricates and cools the internal engine components. Oil is drawn from the sump by the oil pump and circulated around the engine to lubricate bearings, pistons, camshaft and other moving parts before draining back down into the sump to be reused. The sump also helps with engine cooling by dissipating heat through the aluminium casing.

This aluminium sump is a direct replacement for damaged or corroded original sumps. Common reasons for replacement include impact damage from speed bumps or road debris, stripped sump plug threads, oil leaks due to corrosion, or warped sealing surfaces causing oil leaks. Aluminium sumps are strong, lightweight and dissipate heat better than pressed steel sumps.

When replacing the oil sump, it is recommended to also fit a new sump gasket or sealant, new sump bolts and a new sump plug and washer. It is also a good opportunity to carry out an oil and filter change. If the original sump has been damaged, the oil pickup pipe should be checked to make sure it has not been damaged or blocked.
