T5,G4 Cylinder Head Gasket - 1.9 TDI (BRR,AXC,BRS,AXB) - 2 Notch

This cylinder head gasket fits between the engine block and cylinder head on Volkswagen 1.9 TDI engines. Its job is to seal the combustion chambers, oil passages and coolant passages between the block and the cylinder head. This allows the engine to maintain correct compression while keeping oil and coolant separate and circulating correctly through the engine.

This gasket is the 2 hole / notch identification type and is 1.55mm thick, which refers to the piston protrusion specification. It is important to always match the hole/notch markings on your original gasket, as different thickness gaskets are used to maintain correct compression ratio and piston-to-head clearance. Using the wrong thickness gasket can cause poor running, smoke, low compression or engine damage.

Common signs of a failed head gasket include coolant loss, overheating, white smoke from exhaust, oil in coolant, coolant in oil, pressure in coolant hoses, poor starting or low compression.

When replacing the head gasket, it is recommended to also fit new head bolts (stretch bolts), timing belt kit, water pump, thermostat and fresh oil and filter. The cylinder head should also be checked for flatness before refitting.
