G4 Alternator (70 Amp) - 1.4, 1.6

This 12 volt 70 amp alternator is a replacement charging unit for selected Volkswagen petrol models fitted with a 56mm 6-rib belt pulley. The alternator is driven by the auxiliary belt and generates electrical power for the vehicle while the engine is running, supplying the ignition system, lights, wipers, heater fan, and other electrical components while also keeping the battery charged.

A worn or failing alternator can cause battery warning lights, flat battery problems, dim lights, poor starting, charging faults, or intermittent electrical issues. Inside the alternator, the pulley spins the internal rotor, producing current which is regulated and fed back into the vehicle’s charging system. Replacing a weak alternator helps restore proper battery charging and reliable electrical performance.

Before fitting, check the pulley type, rib count, pulley diameter, mounting style, electrical connections, and output rating against the original unit. On some vehicles it is also wise to inspect the auxiliary belt, belt tensioner, and battery condition at the same time, as wear in these parts can affect alternator performance or shorten the life of the new unit.
