G3 200mm Clutch Kit - 1.6, 1.9 Diesel

This 200mm clutch kit includes the clutch pressure plate, clutch friction disc, and release plate, and is designed as a complete replacement for worn or slipping clutches on a wide range of Volkswagen petrol and diesel models. This kit does not include the clutch release bearing, which must be purchased separately when replacing the clutch.

The clutch is the component that connects the engine to the gearbox and allows you to change gear smoothly. When the clutch pedal is pressed, the release mechanism pushes against the pressure plate via the release plate, lifting the pressure plate away from the clutch disc and disconnecting the engine from the gearbox. When the pedal is released, the pressure plate clamps the clutch disc against the flywheel, transferring engine power through the gearbox to the wheels. Over time, the friction material on the clutch disc wears down, causing slipping, poor acceleration, difficulty selecting gears, or judder when pulling away. Replacing the clutch kit restores proper power transfer and smooth gear changes.

When replacing the clutch, it is strongly recommended to also replace the clutch release bearing and inspect the flywheel surface for wear or heat spots. On higher mileage vehicles, it is also good practice to check or replace the rear crankshaft oil seal and gearbox input shaft seal while the gearbox is removed, as these are common sources of oil contamination which can ruin a new clutch.
