G4 Water Flange Sealing Plug Spring Clip - 1.8 Turbo

This retaining spring is used to secure the sealing plug or sensor housing into the coolant flange on various Volkswagen models fitted with 1.8 petrol turbo engines. The spring clip locks into the coolant flange and holds the sealing plug firmly in place, preventing it from working loose under coolant pressure and engine vibration.

The coolant flange system on these engines uses push-fit sensor housings and blanking plugs sealed with an O-ring. This retaining spring slides into the flange and locks the plug or sensor in position. If the clip becomes corroded, bent, or lost during repairs, the plug may not seat correctly, which can cause coolant leaks or the sensor housing to pop out under pressure. Replacing this small but important clip ensures the sealing plug remains secure and the cooling system maintains proper pressure.

This retaining spring is designed for 28.5mm diameter sealing plugs and is commonly used on coolant flanges fitted to 1.8T engines across many VW models. It is always recommended to check the condition of the sealing plug O-ring at the same time and replace it if worn or flattened to prevent leaks.
