G3 Water Pipe - 1.6, 1.9 Diesel, 2.0 Petrol

This metal coolant pipe is a main coolant distribution pipe used on a wide range of Volkswagen engines. It runs along the engine block and connects major cooling system components including the water pump, radiator hoses, heater hoses, oil cooler hoses, and thermostat housing. Its purpose is to distribute coolant around the engine efficiently, ensuring stable engine temperature, proper heater operation, and correct oil cooler function where fitted.

Because this pipe is made from metal, it provides strong mounting points for multiple hoses and sensors and is designed to withstand constant heat cycles and vibration. However, over time these pipes often corrode internally and externally, especially if coolant changes have been neglected. Rust can cause leaks around hose connections or weak points in the pipe, which can lead to coolant loss and overheating. Replacing a corroded coolant pipe is often necessary on older Mk3-era vehicles and can prevent multiple cooling system issues at once.

When replacing this pipe, it is recommended to check or replace the connected rubber hoses, hose clips, O-rings, thermostat housing, coolant temperature sensors, oil cooler hoses, and plastic flanges. The cooling system should be refilled with fresh coolant after installation.
