G3 Metal Water Pipe - 1.8

This metal coolant pipe is a key part of the cooling system fitted to many Volkswagen 1.6 and 1.8 petrol engines. The pipe runs along the engine and connects multiple parts of the cooling system together, including the water pump, thermostat housing, radiator hoses, heater matrix hoses, and oil cooler hoses. Its purpose is to act as the main coolant distribution pipe, allowing coolant to circulate efficiently around the engine and maintain correct operating temperature.

Unlike rubber hoses, this pipe is made from metal to withstand constant heat cycles and engine vibration while providing solid mounting points for various coolant hoses and sensors. Over time, these pipes commonly rust, corrode internally, or become blocked with scale from old coolant. External corrosion can also cause leaks around hose connections or mounting points. Replacing a corroded coolant pipe helps prevent coolant leaks, overheating, and poor heater performance.

When replacing this metal pipe, it is recommended to also check or replace the connected rubber hoses, hose clips, O-rings, coolant temperature sensors, thermostat, and plastic flanges, as these are common wear items in the same area. Fresh coolant should always be used when reinstalling the cooling system.
