G2,G3 Crankshaft Timing Gear - 1.0-1.6

This crankshaft timing gear is a direct replacement for Volkswagen petrol engines that use a timing belt–driven camshaft, transferring rotational drive from the crankshaft to the timing belt to maintain precise valve timing.

Mounted on the nose of the crankshaft, the timing gear drives the timing belt, synchronising the crankshaft and camshaft so that the valves open and close at the correct points in the engine cycle. Accurate timing is essential for smooth running, correct combustion, and preventing internal engine damage.

Over time, crank timing gears can suffer from worn or damaged teeth, corrosion, fretting on the crankshaft mounting surface, or incorrect installation. Any wear can lead to belt misalignment, noise, inaccurate timing, or premature timing belt failure. Replacing the gear ensures proper belt engagement and reliable long-term operation.

Fitting notes: It is strongly recommended to replace the crankshaft timing gear whenever a timing belt kit is fitted on high-mileage engines or if wear is visible.
