G3 Starter Motor - VR6 (Manual)

This starter motor is designed specifically for VR6 engines fitted with a manual transmission, delivering the higher torque required to reliably crank 2.8 and 2.9 VR6 engines. With a 10-tooth pinion and 1.7 kW output, it matches the original factory specification and ensures fast, consistent starting even when hot.

VR6 engines place greater load on the starter due to their displacement and compression. A tired or incorrect starter can cause slow cranking, clicking, or intermittent no-start issues. This unit restores proper engagement with the flywheel ring gear and delivers dependable performance for both daily use and restored classics.

Important: This starter is for manual gearbox vehicles only and is not suitable for automatic transmissions.

How it works

When the ignition key is turned, the starter solenoid engages the 10-tooth pinion with the flywheel ring gear while simultaneously powering the motor. The high-torque motor spins the engine fast enough to allow fuel and ignition to take over, after which the pinion retracts automatically.
