G3 Starter Motor - 1993-94 - 1.9 Diesel

This starter motor is designed for VW 1.6 and 1.9 diesel engines fitted with a manual transmission, where extra cranking power is essential. With a 1.7kW output and 10-tooth pinion, it delivers the torque needed to reliably turn over higher-compression diesel engines, even in cold conditions.

Diesel starters work much harder than petrol equivalents. When they begin to fail, common symptoms include slow cranking, clicking, or complete no-start. Replacing a tired starter restores fast, confident starts and correct engagement with the flywheel ring gear.

How it works

When the ignition is turned, the solenoid pushes the 10-tooth pinion into the flywheel while supplying power to the motor. The 1.7kW motor spins the diesel engine fast enough to achieve compression ignition, then disengages automatically once the engine fires.
