G3,G4 Alternator - 70AMP

This 70AMP alternator is a direct replacement unit for a wide range of Volkswagen petrol and diesel models from the late 1980s through to the late 1990s. Designed for 14V charging on 12V systems, it provides a stable power supply to the battery and all on-board electrics, keeping lights bright, heaters strong, wipers fast and modern accessories running reliably.

The alternator is driven by the auxiliary belt via a 49mm diameter, 6-rib pulley, matching the original VW multi-rib belt set-up. Inside, the rotor and stator generate up to 70A of charging current, while the integrated voltage regulator maintains the correct system voltage to protect ECUs, sensors and other sensitive electronics. As the engine runs, the alternator continually tops up the battery and powers the vehicle’s electrical load; a failing alternator can cause battery warning lights, dim headlights, poor starting and intermittent electrical faults.

This replacement alternator is built to OE-style specifications with robust bearings and high-quality internal components for long service life. It is ideal as a like-for-like replacement on standard vehicles that don’t need the extra capacity of a 90A or 120A unit. When fitting, we recommend inspecting or renewing the auxiliary drive belt, belt tensioner and electrical connections to ensure correct operation and to avoid premature wear.
