T4,G3 Timing Belt Tensioner - 1994-03 - 1.9 Diesel (1X,ABL)

This timing belt tensioner is a key component in the timing belt system used on Volkswagen 1.9 diesel and turbo-diesel engines. Its function is to maintain the correct belt tension at all times, ensuring accurate synchronisation between the crankshaft, camshaft and diesel injection pump.

The tensioner uses a sprung roller design that automatically compensates for belt stretch, temperature changes and normal wear. By keeping constant pressure on the timing belt, it prevents belt slack, noise, vibration and tooth jump, all of which can lead to incorrect valve timing, poor running or serious engine damage.

A worn or seized tensioner bearing is one of the most common causes of timing belt failure on VW diesel engines. For this reason, the tensioner should always be replaced whenever a timing belt is changed, even if it appears serviceable.

This tensioner features a 25mm wide roller with a 67mm outer diameter and is manufactured to meet the correct specification for the listed engines and engine number change points. It is suitable for use on standard and turbo-diesel applications where specified.
