G1,G2 Alternator Belt (865x10) - 1.6 (EW), 1.8 (EX,JH,2H,DX) - Cabrio Without Air Con

T4 Power Steering Pump Belt / Golf–Jetta Alternator Belt (Power Steering) / Scirocco Alternator Belt (No A/C + Power Steering)

Long Description

This 10 x 865 mm V-belt is a heavy-duty auxiliary drive belt used on several Volkswagen applications where a longer belt is required to run the power steering pump and/or alternator on vehicles equipped with power steering. Correct belt size is essential on these setups because the belt has to wrap around multiple pulleys while maintaining the correct contact area and tension.

On many VW engines, the V-belt transfers engine rotation from the crankshaft pulley to the accessory pulleys. In this case, it’s commonly used as:

  • A power steering pump belt on VW T4 Transporter models

  • An alternator belt on Golf and Jetta models fitted with power steering

  • An alternator belt on Scirocco models without air conditioning but with power steering

Because power steering adds load to the belt drive (especially at idle or during parking), using the correct width (10 mm) ensures the belt sits properly in the pulley groove and grips under load without slipping. A worn or incorrect belt can cause squealing, poor charging, intermittent battery warning light, or reduced power steering assistance, and can also accelerate wear on pulleys and bearings.

This belt is built for reliable performance and is ideal for routine servicing, restoring factory accessory drive function, or replacing belts that have stretched, cracked, or become glazed with age.

What this belt does

  • Drives the power steering pump on T4 applications

  • Drives the alternator on certain Golf/Jetta/Scirocco power steering setups

  • Maintains reliable grip under steering and electrical load

  • Helps prevent belt squeal and charging/steering issues when correctly tensioned

How it works

A V-belt wedges into the pulley groove. As it’s tensioned, the angled sides of the belt create friction and grip, allowing torque transfer. With power steering systems, belt load increases when steering assistance demand rises—so correct belt profile and tension are vital.

Fitting notes & recommended associated parts

  • Check the pulley alignment (misalignment shreds belts quickly)

  • Inspect power steering pump and alternator bearings for play

  • Replace any damaged or rusty pulleys

  • Adjust to correct tension: too tight can damage bearings; too loose causes slip/squeal

  • After fitting, re-check tension after a short run-in period
