G1 Water Hose - Water Pump To Metal Water Pipe - 1.6 (EW), 1.8 (EX)

This coolant hose connects the water pump outlet to the main metal coolant feed pipe that wraps around the engine block, forming a vital link in the cooling circuit on early water-cooled Volkswagen engines. Its role is simple but critical: it carries pressurised coolant away from the pump and into the engine’s coolant distribution system, allowing heat to be absorbed and carried back to the radiator for cooling.

Manufactured from high-quality, heat-resistant rubber, this hose is precision-moulded to follow the exact original routing around the engine. This ensures correct clearance from moving components, prevents kinking or collapse under load, and maintains consistent coolant flow at all engine speeds and temperatures. Unlike universal straight hose, the correct moulded shape reduces stress on the hose ends and sealing surfaces, helping to prevent leaks and premature failure.

On Mk1 Golf, Caddy, Cabriolet and early Scirocco installations, this hose is exposed to constant heat cycles and vibration. Over time the rubber can harden, swell internally, or crack—leading to restricted flow or sudden coolant loss. How it works in the cooling system

• The water pump circulates coolant through the engine.
