This 90 amp replacement alternator is a high-output charging solution designed for later VW Type 25 (T3) Buses fitted with 1.9 and 2.1 petrol Waterboxer engines, as well as a wide range of classic Volkswagen water-cooled models. Offering a noticeable upgrade over earlier lower-output units, this alternator is ideal for vehicles running additional electrical loads such as upgraded lighting, heaters, stereo systems, auxiliary batteries, or modern accessories.

The alternator works by converting engine-driven mechanical energy into electrical power via a single-rib belt and pulley system. As engine speed increases, the internal rotor generates current which is regulated to a steady 14 volts, ensuring safe battery charging and consistent power delivery across the vehicle’s electrical system. With a 90 amp charging capacity, this unit provides strong output even at lower engine speeds, helping prevent flat batteries and dim lights during idle or stop-start driving.

This alternator is not supplied with a pulley, allowing you to reuse your original pulley to maintain correct belt alignment and spacing. The alternator is designed for single-rib (V-belt) systems and uses a 65mm pulley diameter when fitted with the correct original pulley.
