This complete water pump assembly (including housing) is designed for early VW 1.5 and 1.6 water-cooled petrol and diesel engines. The pump is responsible for circulating coolant through the engine block, cylinder head, radiator and heater matrix, keeping operating temperatures stable and preventing overheating—especially critical on early cooling systems with long pipe runs.

Supplied as a complete unit, this pump simplifies installation and is ideal for both routine maintenance and full cooling system refreshes.

How it works

Driven by the auxiliary belt, the impeller inside the pump spins to move coolant continuously around the engine. Coolant absorbs heat from the block and head, then releases it via the radiator before recirculating. A worn pump (leaking seal, corroded impeller, noisy bearing) can quickly lead to overheating or coolant loss—making replacement essential at the first signs of trouble.
