Waterboxer Cylinder Head Gasket Kit - Victor Reinz (Per Head)

When you’re refitting or rebuilding a Waterboxer cylinder head, the sealing surfaces have to do two jobs at once: keep combustion pressure inside the cylinders and keep coolant circulating around the water jacket without leaks. This top quality Victor Reinz cylinder head gasket set gives you the correct sealing components required to install one cylinder head on all 1.9 and 2.1 WBX engines fitted to the T3 / Type 25 (1983–1992).

What this gasket set does (and why it matters)

On a Waterboxer, the head-to-barrel sealing arrangement is critical. Any weakness here can lead to:

  • Coolant leaks at the head / water jacket area

  • Combustion gases entering the cooling system

  • Poor compression and misfires

  • Overheating and ongoing reliability issues

This kit is designed to restore the factory sealing stack so the head clamps down evenly, maintains correct sealing pressure, and prevents the common “weep” leaks that can occur when old seals are reused or when incorrect gasket materials are fitted.

How it works

Each seal in the kit is intended for a specific interface:

  • Combustion sealing: prevents compression loss and blow-by at the cylinder-to-head area.

  • Coolant jacket sealing: keeps coolant contained as it passes between the crankcase, barrels, and cylinder head.

  • Ancillary sealing: stops oil/coolant seepage from smaller joins and fittings associated with head installation.

Because the Waterboxer relies on accurate clamping and correct seal materials, using a matched kit from a premium manufacturer like Victor Reinz (Germany) helps ensure the seals compress correctly, resist heat cycling, and hold up under modern fuels and temperatures.

What’s included

This is a complete head installation gasket kit for ONE cylinder head (one side of the engine).
If you’re doing both heads (recommended when rebuilding), you will need:

  • 2 kits per engine (one for each head)

Helpful fitting notes

  • This kit suits either side—just remember you’ll need two kits if you’re doing both heads.

  • Always start with clean, flat mating surfaces and carefully inspect head studs, sealing faces, and the water jacket area before assembly.

  • It’s wise to refresh related components while you’re there to avoid repeat labour.

Parts you may also need (recommended while the head is off)

Depending on what you’re doing, these are commonly replaced at the same time:

  • Head nuts / washers (if corroded or previously over-tightened)

  • Water jacket seals and the correct sealant (especially if you’re resealing the full water jacket interface)

  • Pushrod tube seals / pushrod tubes (if weeping)

  • Exhaust and inlet gaskets (if manifolds are removed)

  • Thermostat housing / coolant pipe seals (if disturbed during the job)

  • Coolant and fresh oil after refit, plus a proper bleed of the cooling system
