This genuine Volkswagen valve spring retainer is a direct OE replacement for all 1900cc and 2100cc Waterboxer (WBX) petrol engines fitted to VW Type 25 / T3 buses. The retainer sits at the top of the valve spring and works together with the valve collets (keepers) to securely lock the valve, spring, and spring seat assembly in place.
In normal engine operation, the valve spring retainer plays a vital role in controlling valve movement. As the camshaft opens and closes the valves, the retainer ensures the spring remains correctly seated and applies consistent closing force to the valve. A worn, cracked, or incorrect retainer can lead to valve float, uneven spring pressure, or in extreme cases, valve train failure.
