T5 Lambda Sensor - 2.0 Petrol + 3.2 Petrol

This replacement lambda sensor (oxygen sensor) is a 5-pole regulating probe designed for Volkswagen T5 Transporters with 2.0 petrol and 3.2 VR6 petrol engines. With an overall lead length of 750mm, it’s built to match the original wiring reach and connector positioning, making it a straightforward replacement when dealing with warning lights, poor fuel economy, or drivability issues.

What this part does

The lambda sensor measures the oxygen content in the exhaust gases and sends that information to the ECU. The ECU uses these readings to adjust fuelling in real time, keeping the air/fuel mixture correct for performance, emissions, and catalytic converter protection. A weak or failed sensor can cause the engine to run too rich or too lean, often triggering the engine management light.

How it works

As exhaust gases pass the sensor tip, the internal element generates a signal that reflects the mixture strength. On a regulating (pre-cat) sensor, the ECU constantly corrects fuelling based on this signal, especially at idle and cruise. The 5-wire design typically supports a heated sensor element and signal circuitry, allowing faster warm-up and more accurate readings in varied driving conditions.

Key specifications

  • Type: Lambda sensor / regulating probe

  • Number of poles: 5

  • Overall length: 750mm

  • Application: Petrol engines with closed-loop mixture control

Vehicle compatibility (as supplied)

VW T5 Transporter / Bus / Van / Platform-Chassis

  • 3.2 petrol (VR6) – 02/2004 to 11/2009 (various body types)

  • 2.0 petrol – 11/2003 to 05/2013 (Platform/Chassis) and up to 08/2015 (Bus/Van listings shown)

Fitment is always best confirmed by engine code and original sensor/connector style, as some models use multiple sensors (pre-cat and post-cat).

Fitting notes

  • Many T5 petrol engines use more than one lambda sensor—make sure you’re replacing the correct position (upstream “regulating” vs downstream “diagnostic”).

  • Apply appropriate anti-seize to the threads only if specified (many sensors come pre-coated).

  • Check wiring routing and clips to prevent the loom contacting the exhaust.

A fresh lambda sensor restores accurate mixture control, helps protect the catalytic converter, and can noticeably improve smoothness and fuel consumption on petrol T5 models.
