Type 4 Dipstick (Straight) Chromed Steel

This replacement dipstick is designed for 1700cc, 1800cc, and 2000cc aircooled Type 4 engines as fitted to Baywindow and aircooled T3 / T25 vans. Manufactured to original dimensions, it provides accurate engine oil level readings and is an essential component for maintaining correct lubrication and long engine life on classic Volkswagen aircooled engines.

What this part does

The dipstick allows you to accurately check the engine oil level, ensuring the correct amount of oil is maintained at all times. Proper oil level is critical on aircooled Type 4 engines, as the oil not only lubricates internal components but also plays a key role in engine cooling. Running with low or excessive oil can lead to overheating, oil foaming, or internal engine damage.

How it works

The dipstick is inserted directly into the top of the crankcase, where it reaches into the oil sump. When removed, the oil level can be read against the factory-marked minimum and maximum indicators. This straight-style dipstick is designed specifically for engines where the dipstick tube enters directly into the crankcase, providing a correct reading and secure fit.

Important fitment note

Does NOT fit dipstick tubes that pass through the fan shroud
Only suitable for “straight” style dipstick tubes that go directly into the top of the crankcase
