This top quality German-manufactured oil pressure switch controls the oil warning light in the speedometer, alerting you immediately if engine oil pressure drops below safe operating levels. It is a critical safety component on all classic aircooled Volkswagen engines and is the preferred choice for restorations and long-term reliability.
What it does and how it works
The oil pressure switch monitors oil pressure within the engine’s main oil gallery. When pressure falls below the calibrated threshold, the internal contacts close, completing the circuit and illuminating the dashboard warning light. Once oil pressure rises above the safe range, the circuit opens and the warning light switches off.
This German-made switch is precisely calibrated to operate between 0.15 and 0.45 bar, matching original factory specifications and ensuring accurate warning light behaviour.
Location
Type 1 engines:
Mounted on the left hand side (passenger side on RHD vehicles) of the crankcase, just behind the distributor.Type 4 engines (late Baywindow & early Type 25 / T3):
Fitted off the edge of the oil cooler housing.
