This 90 Amp, 14V alternator is a direct replacement charging unit for VW models that use a 6-rib auxiliary belt and 50mm belt pulley, making it ideal for VW Transporter / Caravelle / Multivan T4 petrol engines, including the 2.0 and 2.5 variants listed. It’s designed to keep your battery charged while supplying stable power to the entire electrical system—especially important on later vehicles with higher electrical demand.

What it does and how it works

The alternator converts engine rotation into electrical energy. Driven by the auxiliary belt, the pulley spins the alternator’s rotor inside a set of windings (stator). This generates AC current, which is then converted into usable DC current by the internal rectifier. A voltage regulator controls the output to maintain a steady 14V charging voltage, preventing undercharging (flat battery) or overcharging (battery damage and electrical faults).

A healthy alternator is essential for:

  • Reliable starting and proper battery charging

  • Stable ignition and fuel system operation

  • Powering lighting, heater blower, wipers, radiator fan control, and other electrical loads

  • Preventing warning lights, misfires, and low-voltage glitches under load

If your alternator is weak or failing you may see the battery light flicker, dim headlights at idle, slow wipers/blower, repeated flat batteries, or charging voltage dropping below spec.
