Type 4 Big Bore Barrel And Piston Kit - 96mm - 1700cc, 1800cc

This big bore cast barrel and piston kit is designed to upgrade Type 4 1700cc and 1800cc aircooled engines fitted to VW Baywindow campers, increasing engine capacity to 1911cc without the need for crankcase machining. Using larger 96mm pistons with the standard 66mm crankshaft, this kit delivers a noticeable improvement in torque and overall drivability while retaining factory reliability.

This slip-in kit features 96mm flat-top Skipper Skirt pistons cast using a hypereutectic process, providing excellent strength, reduced expansion, and improved wear resistance. The barrels and pistons are engineered to bolt directly onto the standard Type 4 crankcase, making this one of the most effective and straightforward performance upgrades for early Baywindow engines.

For 1800cc Type 4 engines, this kit is a direct fit with no cylinder head machining required. For 1700cc engines, the cylinder heads must be machined to accept a 105mm cylinder register. No modification to the crankcase is required in either application.

These pistons feature a zero-offset design, meaning there is no directional arrow and they can be installed in either orientation, simplifying installation. Supplied as a complete matched set, this kit is ideal for engine rebuilds where increased capacity, improved torque, and long-term durability are desired.
