T4,G3 Thermostat Housing - VR6 Engines (AES,AMV Engines)

This plastic thermostat housing is fitted to Volkswagen VR6 2.8 and 2.9 engines, including those installed in T4 Transporters with AES engine codes. It is also used across other VR6-powered models such as the Golf Mk3 and Corrado.

The thermostat housing is a critical part of the engine cooling system. It houses the thermostat and directs coolant flow between the engine and the radiator depending on engine temperature. When the engine is cold, the thermostat remains closed, allowing the engine to warm up quickly. As operating temperature is reached, the thermostat opens, enabling coolant to circulate through the radiator and maintain stable engine temperatures.

On VR6 engines, the original plastic housings are known to degrade over time due to heat cycling and coolant exposure. This can lead to warping, cracking, or coolant leaks, often around the mounting flange or hose connections. Replacing the housing restores correct coolant flow and prevents leaks that could otherwise lead to overheating.
