Valve Spring Retainer - Type 4 Engines

This replacement valve spring retainer is designed for Volkswagen Type 4 air-cooled engines in 1700cc, 1800cc, and 2000cc configurations, as fitted to Baywindow Buses and early air-cooled Type 25 (T3) Buses up to 1983. It is a direct-fit replacement for the original retainer used on standard Type 4 valve trains.

The valve spring retainer sits on top of the valve spring and works together with the valve collets (keepers) to lock the valve spring in position on the valve stem. Its role is critical in maintaining correct spring tension, accurate valve operation, and overall valve train stability. A worn, cracked, or distorted retainer can lead to incorrect valve seating, loss of spring control, and potentially serious engine damage.

Manufactured as a good quality reproduction, this retainer is suitable for standard engines and is ideal for cylinder head rebuilds, valve train servicing, or replacement of fatigued original components. During any head work, it is strongly recommended to inspect all valve springs, retainers, and related components and replace any parts showing signs of wear or damage.
