T4 Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt - 2.8 VR6 (AES)

This secondary timing chain tensioner bolt is designed to ensure correct tensioning of the shoe tensioner on the second (upper) timing chain used in Volkswagen VR6 engines. It plays a vital role in maintaining accurate valve timing by applying the correct preload to the tensioner, helping to control chain slack and reduce timing chain noise.

Fitted to T4 Transporters with 2.8 VR6 AES engines, this bolt is used on engines up to engine number 003 278. It is also compatible with Mk3 Golf VR6 models fitted with the AAA engine code up to engine number 217 000, as well as all Corrado VR6 models using the ABV engine.

A worn, damaged, or incorrectly functioning tensioner bolt can lead to insufficient chain tension, resulting in chain rattle, inaccurate timing, and accelerated wear of chains, guides, and sprockets.
