Type 4 Pushrod (Mechanical Lifters)

This OE-style aluminium pushrod is designed for air-cooled Volkswagen Type 4 engines fitted with mechanical (solid) lifters, as used in Baywindow Buses. It is a direct replacement for the original factory pushrods and is ideal for engine rebuilds, valve train repairs, or replacement of worn or damaged components.

The pushrod transfers motion from the camshaft lifter to the rocker arm, opening and closing the valves in precise time with the engine’s rotation. Correct pushrod length, material, and straightness are critical to maintaining accurate valve timing, proper valve clearance, and quiet operation. Bent or worn pushrods can cause incorrect valve adjustment, increased valve train noise, and premature wear of lifters and rocker components.

Manufactured from lightweight aluminium, this pushrod closely matches original specifications, helping to reduce reciprocating mass within the valve train. This promotes smoother engine operation and reduces stress on camshaft lobes and lifters—especially important on mechanical lifter engines where valve clearances are set manually.

These pushrods are sold individually, with eight required per engine.

• Not suitable for hydraulic lifter engines
