Type 4 Con Rod Bearing Set - 1700cc, 1800cc

This complete connecting rod (big end) bearing set is designed for Volkswagen Type 4 air-cooled engines in 1700cc and 1800cc capacities, as fitted to Baywindow Buses from 1972 to 1975. It is also suitable for Porsche 914 models using the same Type 4 engines.

The connecting rod bearings sit between the crankshaft journals and the connecting rods, providing a precision bearing surface that supports the crankshaft under load while allowing smooth rotation. Correctly sized and fitted bearings are essential for maintaining proper oil pressure, reducing friction, and preventing premature crankshaft and rod wear. Worn or incorrectly sized bearings can lead to knocking noises, loss of oil pressure, and serious engine damage.

Manufactured to tight tolerances, these bearings offer a precise fit and reliable oil clearance when matched correctly to the crankshaft journal size. They are ideal for engine rebuilds, reconditioning work, or bearing replacement following crankshaft grinding.

The set is supplied as 8 individual shells, enough to rebuild one complete engine (four connecting rods). Multiple sizes are available to suit standard crankshafts or reground crankshafts.
