Flywheel Needle Bearing Felt Seal Ring - Type 4 Engines

This flywheel felt seal is fitted between the flywheel and the crankshaft on Volkswagen Type 4 air-cooled engines. It is used on all Baywindow Buses with 1700cc, 1800cc, and 2000cc Type 4 engines, as well as early Type 25 (T3) Buses fitted with the 2000cc air-cooled engine.

The felt seal acts as an additional oil control barrier at the rear of the crankshaft, working alongside the flywheel O-ring and rear main oil seal. Its purpose is to absorb and control any minor oil mist or seepage, helping to prevent oil contamination of the clutch and bellhousing area. When missing, hardened, or oil-soaked, this seal can contribute to clutch slip and oil leaks that are often misdiagnosed as rear crank seal failure.

Manufactured to German quality standards, this felt seal is correctly sized and density-matched to original specifications, ensuring proper fitment and long service life. It is strongly recommended to replace this seal whenever the flywheel is removed, particularly during engine rebuilds or clutch replacement.
