8mm Inlet Valve Guide - Type 4 Engines

This 8mm inlet valve guide is a standard replacement component for Type 4 air-cooled engines, designed to support accurate valve movement and ensure long-term valvetrain reliability. The valve guide is pressed into the cylinder head and provides a precisely machined bore for the inlet valve stem, keeping the valve correctly aligned as it opens and closes.

Correct valve guide condition is critical on Type 4 engines. Worn or oval guides can cause excessive oil consumption, blue smoke on overrun, noisy valve operation, poor valve sealing, and accelerated valve and seat wear. Replacing worn inlet valve guides during a cylinder head rebuild restores proper valve control, improves combustion efficiency, and helps extend overall engine life.

This guide is manufactured to the correct 12mm outer diameter, 8mm inner diameter, and 58mm length, making it suitable for 8mm inlet valves used on 1700cc, 1800cc, and 2000cc Type 4 engines. It is compatible with engines fitted to VW T2 Baywindow buses, air-cooled VW T25 / T3 buses, and Porsche 914 models within the listed engine ranges.

  During installation, valve guides should be fitted using the correct interference fit and tooling. After installation, guides must be correctly sized (reamed or honed as required) to ensure proper valve stem clearance. It is strongly recommended that valve guide replacement is carried out by an experienced engine builder or machine shop.
