This rocker shaft stud is a critical valvetrain fastening component for Type 4 air-cooled engines, used to secure the rocker shaft assembly firmly to the cylinder head. Correctly clamping the rocker shaft ensures accurate valve operation, stable valve geometry, and consistent valve lash across all cylinders.
Designed for 1700cc, 1800cc, and 2000cc Type 4 engines, this stud is suitable for all VW T2 Baywindow buses, early air-cooled VW T25 / T3 models, and Porsche 914 applications running the Type 4 engine. The stud threads into the cylinder head and provides a mounting point for the rocker shaft blocks, allowing the rocker arms to pivot smoothly and reliably as the camshaft operates the valves.
Over time, original rocker studs can become stretched, corroded, or damaged—often due to repeated torque cycles, overtightening, or previous engine work. Worn or compromised studs can lead to loose rocker assemblies, noisy valve operation, inaccurate valve clearances, or even valvetrain failure. Replacing worn studs during an engine rebuild or top-end service helps ensure long-term reliability and quiet, smooth engine operation.
Quantity and fitting notes:
Sold individually
2 studs required per cylinder head
4 studs required per complete engine
When installing, ensure the cylinder head threads are clean and in good condition. Apply the correct torque specification during assembly to avoid thread damage in the head. It is also good practice to inspect rocker shaft blocks, spacers, and rocker arms at the same time to ensure a complete and reliable valvetrain setup.
