T4 Automatic Starter Motor - 2.5 TDI

This 1.8 kW starter motor is designed for use on Volkswagen automatic transmission models, providing the high torque required to reliably start larger capacity petrol and diesel engines. Operating on 12 volts and fitted with a 9-tooth pinion gear, this starter motor delivers strong, consistent cranking performance, even in cold conditions or on higher-compression engines.

The starter motor works by using electrical power from the battery to drive an internal electric motor. This motor turns the pinion gear, which engages with the engine’s flywheel or flexplate ring gear. Once engaged, the starter rotates the engine until it fires and runs under its own power. After startup, the pinion disengages automatically to prevent damage to the starter and flywheel.

With a rated power output of 1.8 kW, this unit is particularly well suited to 2.5 diesel engines, VR6 petrol engines, and other applications where additional starting torque is required. Worn or failing starter motors often show symptoms such as slow cranking, clicking noises, intermittent starting, or complete failure. Replacing the starter restores dependable starting and reduces strain on the battery and electrical system.

This starter motor is intended specifically for automatic gearbox vehicles. When fitting, it is recommended to check the condition of the battery, battery terminals, earth straps, and starter motor wiring. In some cases, new mounting bolts or a starter motor support bracket may also be required, depending on the model.
