CSP 1914cc Stroker Barrel And Piston Kit - 94mm Bore Type 1 Stroker Engines

374 grams of high-tech – the CSP Products pistons combine unique features with durability.

They are suitable for all-out street engines – even when superchraged!

Here are the features at a glance:

  • super light 94 mm forged pistons (374 gr)
  • CNC-machined and made from 4032 aluminium
  • axial offset wrist pin hole
  • spiral locks for wrist pins
  • 33 mm compression height
  • tall top land, suitable for supercharging
  • maximum oil flow to the wrist pin through double forced pin oiler, an annular groove to reservoir oil and double broach oilers
  • hard-anodized piston dome
  • corrosion resistance towards aggressive fuels
  • 3-component coating on the piston skirts

The set contains also wrist pins (108 gr), spiral locks and Grant (optional additional Total-Seal) piston rings.

Why are CSP Products pistons so revolutionary?

In the 1970s, people began to build Type-1 engines, used in the VW Beetle, Karmann Ghia (Type-14), Thing (Type-181) or Type-2 Bus (Split Screen and Bay Window), with displacements of over two litres.

This was achieved by using stroker crankshafts with up to 82 millimeters of stroke and Porsche 356 rods – back then the only models available besides VW rods.

These historical reasons resulted in the compression height of the aftermarket pistons of 35 millimeters, which is still common.

Now there are countless aftermarket connecting rods that are specially designed for the use in air-cooled VW engines.

In addition, Porsche 356 rods are hardly available today – making a compression height of 35 mm no longer appropriate.

Because this compression height makes it necessary to use barrel rings under the cylinders and consequently the engine width changes.

Which, in turn, can result in a number of complex modifications to the cooling tin, the fan shroud and even the engine compartment.

For this reason, the 94 millimeter CSP Products pistons have a lower compression height of 33 millimeters – which means you don`t have to use barrel shims at all or just very thin ones.

For example, with the combination of a 82 mm crankshaft, stock rods and the CSP Products pistons, there is no need for barrel shims.

What makes CSP Products pistons so special?

The CSP Products pistons have a number of well thought-out features which are not available on the market in this combination!

They have offset wrist pin bores – standard in production engines, but rarely found on aftermarket pistons.

As with VW pistons, the offset is 1.5 millimeters.

We also paid extreme attention to the oil supply for the wrist pins. In the third piston ring groove, above the wrist pin bore, there are four openings, which feed two oil channels ending on the right and left in the wrist pin bore.

An annular groove runs from there to two broach oilers on each side, which further optimize lubrication. Spiral locks hold the wrist pins securely in their position.

Also not commonplace is the coating on the piston skirts. In contrast to many others, it does not consist of one material, but of three components, including MoS2 (Molybdenum Disulfide) and PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene).

It not only ensures low piston friction during brake-in, but over the entire lifespan. The hard anodized piston dome has a laser-engraved installation mark and two CSP Products logos, and its tall top land suits particularly well supercharged engines.

In contrast to all these high-tech features, the piston ring sizes (first ring: 1.5 mm – second ring: 2.0 mm – third ring: 4.0 mm) have remained conventional and are based on the Mahle pistons.

Why? Because this guarantees an easy supply of spare parts worldwide! Last but not least, there is the extremely low weight of just 374 grams per piston, which helps keeping the crank drive weight low.

The supplied wrist pins weigh 108 grams each and complete the set with Grant (optional additional Total Seal) piston rings.
