72 Plate Mesa Oil Cooler Kit

EMPI 72 plate Mesa external oil cooler kit for VW Type 1 aircooled engines. Designed for extreme performance and high temperature applications where maximum oil cooling capacity is required.

The Mesa-cool multiple flow path design increases cooling efficiency by approximately 30% over conventional oil coolers while maintaining excellent oil flow with minimal pressure drop. This allows engine oil to cool rapidly without sacrificing the oil pressure needed to protect bearings, camshafts and other critical engine components under heavy load.

Manufactured from aerospace quality aluminium using fluxless oven-brazed construction, the cooler is exceptionally durable and resistant to vibration, corrosion and cracking. The large 72 plate design offers substantially increased oil cooling capacity, making it ideal for turbocharged engines, large displacement stroker motors, off-road race vehicles and long-distance high speed driving.

This complete kit includes a 72 plate Mesa oil cooler, remote screw-on oil filter head, oil cooler bypass/block-off adaptor, oil hose and fittings required for installation. The supplied bypass adaptor replaces the factory oil cooler location and redirects oil flow through the external cooling system.

For Beetles and Buses fitted with standard cooling systems, we strongly recommend retaining the original doghouse oil cooler and using this external cooler as an additional system with a proper full flow oil setup. The supplied bypass adaptor is especially suited to beach buggies, race cars, trikes and open engine custom applications.

Ideal for engines operating in extreme climates, sustained high RPM use, heavy off-road driving and competition motorsport applications.
