EMPI 72 plate Mesa external oil cooler designed for high performance VW aircooled engines requiring maximum oil cooling capacity under extreme operating conditions.

The Mesa-cool multiple flow path design improves cooling efficiency by approximately 30% over many conventional cooler designs while maintaining excellent oil flow with minimal pressure loss. This allows engine oil to cool rapidly while preserving the oil pressure required to properly lubricate bearings, camshafts and other vital internal components.

Manufactured from aerospace quality aluminium using fluxless oven-brazed construction, this cooler is exceptionally strong, vibration resistant and corrosion resistant. The large 72 plate design provides substantial additional cooling capacity, making it ideal for high compression engines, turbocharged applications, stroker motors, off-road race vehicles and sustained high RPM driving.

Its slimline compact construction also allows easier installation in confined engine bays or under-vehicle mounting locations. The finned design increases surface area to improve heat dissipation and cooling efficiency.

This cooler is commonly used as part of a full flow oil system alongside remote oil filter setups, thermostat systems and auxiliary cooling fans. For enclosed engine vehicles such as Beetles and Buses, it is generally recommended to retain the original doghouse oil cooler and use the Mesa cooler as an additional cooling system.
