48 Plate Mesa Oil Cooler Kit

EMPI 48 plate Mesa external oil cooler kit for VW Type 1 aircooled engines. Designed to provide substantially improved oil cooling capacity for high performance, off-road, racing and hard-worked engines.

The Mesa-cool multiple flow path design improves cooling efficiency by approximately 30% over many conventional oil coolers while maintaining excellent oil flow with minimal pressure loss. This allows oil temperatures to remain stable without sacrificing the vital oil pressure needed to protect bearings, camshafts and other internal engine components.

Manufactured from aircraft quality aluminium using fluxless oven-brazed construction, the cooler is extremely durable, vibration resistant and corrosion resistant. Its compact thin-line design measures only 38mm thick, making it ideal for installations where space is limited.

This kit includes a 48 plate Mesa cooler, remote screw-on oil filter head, oil cooler bypass/block-off adaptor, oil hoses and fittings required for installation. The supplied adaptor replaces the original oil cooler location and redirects oil flow to the external cooler system.

For maximum engine protection, we recommend retaining the factory doghouse oil cooler on Beetles and Buses and running this external cooler as an additional cooling system using a proper full flow oil system. The supplied bypass adaptor is most suitable for open engine applications such as beach buggies, trikes and custom vehicles where the original cooling arrangement is not retained.

Ideal for large capacity engines, high compression builds, turbocharged engines, performance street cars, off-road race vehicles and hot climate use.
