48 Plate Mesa Oil Cooler Element

EMPI 48 plate Mesa external oil cooler for VW Type 1 aircooled engines. Designed to provide increased oil cooling capacity and improved engine protection for performance and hard-worked applications.

The Mesa-cool multiple flow path design improves oil cooling efficiency by approximately 30% over conventional oil cooler designs while maintaining excellent oil flow with minimal pressure loss. This allows oil temperatures to remain more stable without sacrificing the oil pressure needed to protect vital engine components.

Manufactured from aerospace quality aluminium using fluxless oven-brazed construction, this cooler is highly resistant to vibration, corrosion and cracking. The finned construction improves heat dissipation while the compact slimline design allows easier installation in confined spaces.

The 48 plate configuration offers an excellent balance between cooling performance and installation size, making it ideal for fast road engines, larger displacement builds, off-road vehicles, hot climate driving and mild competition applications.

This cooler is commonly used with full flow oil systems, remote oil filter heads, thermostat kits and electric cooling fan setups. For enclosed engine vehicles such as Beetles and Buses, it is generally recommended to retain the original doghouse oil cooler and use the Mesa cooler as an additional cooling system.
